Mountain Rescue Services Save Stranded Climbers in Austria and Germany

On 21st September 2021, Austrian mountain rescue services were called to aid two stranded climbers near the Oberreintalschrofen. The exact unit involved, either Bergrettung Schwaz or Bergwacht Innsbruck, remains unclear due to their proximity to the incident. The climbers were rescued safely and taken to the Oberreintal hut for a brief rest before descending into the valley.

Earlier in the day, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen mountain rescue service had responded to a similar call. Four experienced rescuers were deployed, climbing six pitches to reach the climbers and safely guide them down. Meanwhile, on Thursday, three climbers found themselves stuck 200 meters below the Zugspitze summit. The Ehrwald mountain rescue service in Tyrol was summoned, rescuing the inadequately equipped climbers via the Stopselziehersteig and transporting them to Ehrwald using the Tyrolean Zugspitzbahn. In both cases, the climbers' rope getting stuck complicated the rescue operation, requiring nighttime efforts.

These incidents highlight the crucial role of mountain rescue services in ensuring the safety of climbers. Despite challenging conditions, they successfully rescued all climbers unharmed. Further details can be found in the reports of the involved rescue services or local news.
