Motorway Madness: Prepare for Weekend Shutdowns on A45, A43, and A42 in NRW

Weekend blockage on three major highways in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) - Motorways shut down in NRW during weekend period

Rolling up to North Rhine-Westphalia this weekend? Better brace yourself for some major motorway mayhem! The A45 (Frankfurt-Dortmund), A43 (Wuppertal-Münster), and A42 (Rheinbrücke at Duisburg) are all on the chopping block for some much-needed renovations.

As the A45 (Frankfurt-Dortmund) will be undergoing the renewal of four bridges near the Westhofen interchange at Schwerte, it'll be fully closed from Friday at 10 pm to Monday at 5 am. You can still use some on- and off-ramps at the Westhofen interchange, but be prepared for detours. Local traffic will be directed via the exits Schwerte and Hagen-Nord, while regional traffic will stick to established detours due to the Rahmedetal bridge rebuild at Lüdenscheid.

If you're crossing the Rhine at Duisburg-Beeckerwerth, bad news—the A42 bridge there will be closed in both directions from Friday at 9 pm to Monday at 5 am for a cable inspection. Detours will be via the A40, A57, and A59, as announced by the motorway branch office Rhineland.

Finally, keep an eye out for the A43 between Witten and Marl, which will be expanded to six lanes and require the expansion of the Herne interchange (A42). Thus, the A43 between the Recklinghausen interchange and Herne-Eickel will be closed in both directions from Friday at 9 pm to Monday at 5 am.

Weekend travel in NRW? Might as well pack your patience along with your luggage! So, where do we stand?

  • A45: Be prepared for detours at Schwerte and Hagen-Nord.
  • A43: Expect delays around Witten and Marl.
  • A42: Sadly, no crossing the Rhine at Duisburg-Beeckerwerth from Friday to Monday.
  • NRW: Ready your spirits for some patience-testing motorway madness!
  • Dortmund: Brace for bridge renewal on A45.
  • Duisburg: Cable inspections mean Rhine crossings on A42 will be off-limits.
  • Recklinghausen: Get ready for some A43 congestion near the Herne interchange.
  • Wuppertal: Don't forget about the A43 widening to six lanes between Witten and Marl.
  • Münster: Remember, the A43 will be closed between the Recklinghausen interchange and Herne-Eickel.
  • Cologne: The A1 may become a handy alternative for detours around Dortmund.
  • Bremen: The A1 could serve as a detour if A45, A43, or A42 closures occur.
  • the federal motorway company: They're the ones racing against time to spruce up our roads before summer is in full swing!

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it's recommended to check local traffic updates or contact regional traffic authorities. Alternatively, consider public transport, car-sharing services, or taxis for short to medium distances during motorway closures.
