Weekend Woes: Three Motorways in NRW Shut Down This Weekend

Weekend Closures on Three Highways in NRW (Nordrhein-Westfalen) - Motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) were shut down over the weekend.

No fun drives for motorists in North Rhine-Westphalia this weekend as three major highways - A45, A43, and A42 - will be closing down. Stay away from the Frankfurt-Dortmund (A45) near Westhofen interchange in Schwerte, Wuppertal-Münster (A43) near A42 interchange in Recklinghausen, and the A42-Rheinbrücke in Duisburg.

The A45, a busy route for local and international traffic, will be fully shut down for the replacement of four bridges over the A1 near Westhofen interchange. Temporary bridges will be put in place for preparation, and the A45 will be closed from Friday at 10 PM until Monday at 5 AM.

For those who fancy a detour, regional traffic will be re-routed through North Rhine-Westphalia's highways, using the already established detours due to the closed A45 in Lüdenscheid. In Schwerte and Hagen-Nord interchanges, the traffic will be diverted. Although the on- and off-ramps at the Westhofen interchange won't be affected by the bridge replacement, follow the detour signs to play it safe.

Prepare for cable inspections on A42 bridge in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth as it will be closed in both directions for the weekend, from Friday at 9 PM to Monday at 5 AM. Motorists heading to Dortmund can expect detours at the Duisburg-Baerl interchange, while those going towards Kamp-Lintfort will be diverted at the Duisburg-Beeck interchange. The route will go via the A40, A57, and A59, as per the Rhine-Autobahn Niederlassung's announcement.

Sadly, the A43 between Witten and Marl won’t be spared either. Major construction at the Herne interchange (A42) calls for the A43 to be widened into six lanes, requiring expansion work on the Herne interchange. Thus, the A43 between Recklinghausen interchange and Herne-Eickel will be closed in both directions from Friday at 9 PM until Monday at 5 AM.
