Motorway Patrol Update

On Sunday, May 19, 2024, a unique incident occurred on the A3 towards Arnhem. Around 5:40 PM, a 70-kilogram pig named Hamlet managed to escape from a trailer near Oberhausen-Holten, causing the highway to be temporarily closed for its removal. Highway police and firefighters worked together to safely transport Hamlet from the highway in a fire truck.

The owner of the pig, a 35-year-old driver from Schwerte, was fined for inadequate security measures in his cargo pants. Hamlet's injuries from the escape were treated by veterinary services.

Despite the unexpected disruption, traffic resumed on the A3 shortly after the pig was safely removed from the road. The incident resulted in no further accidents on the A3 towards Arnhem.

Following the incident, the owner of the pig arranged for a more suitable trailer with improved security measures. An offense report was filed against the driver for the initial inadequate security measures in his cargo pants.

Hamlet, the male breed pig, was later identified and has since been returned to its owner. The available search results do not contain information about the traffic accident or the exact date of the incident.

While this incident may seem unusual, it serves as a reminder of the importance of proper cargo security on our highways to ensure the safety of all road users, including our four-legged friends.
