Motorway patrol update
On Sunday, May 19, 2024, an unexpected incident unfolded on the A3 highway near the town of Oberhausen-Holten. A 70-kilogram pig found itself in a precarious situation, having jumped from a car and trailer during transit.
Between 5:40 PM and 7:45 PM, the pig sought refuge in a ditch along the A3. The pig's journey did not end there, however, as it managed to injure its front legs slightly and ran aimlessly across the highway.
A 35-year-old driver from Schwerte was traveling on the A3 towards Arnhem during this time, unaware that he was carrying an insufficiently insured load of about 70 kilograms of pork. The pig's escape from the vehicle occurred at Oberhausen-Holten, where it jumped through a wooden slat and the closed tarp onto the main road.
Thankfully, the pig and its owner were found together in the ditch shortly after. Highway police assisted in loading the injured pig into a fire truck for safe removal from the highway.
The driver was reported for an administrative offense for inadequate cargo securing. No further details about the driver's identity have been released at this time.
The exact location of the ditch was not specified, but it was near Oberhausen-Holten on the A3. The incident involved only the pig and its owner, with no other parties reported to have been affected.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper cargo securing during transportation, ensuring the safety of both the drivers and the animals in transit.
