In a shocking incident on the A57 highway, a collision involving three vehicles occurred just after the Neuss/Büttgen junction.
The incident involved a 29-year-old woman from Krefeld, who was driving a Porsche, a 66-year-old woman from Kleve, driving an Opel, and a 42-year-old woman from Mönchengladbach, who was behind the wheel of a Seat.
The events unfolded when the 29-year-old woman, in an attempt to overtake several vehicles illegally, switched from the middle lane to the right lane. Unfortunately, this action led to a collision with the Opel driven by the 66-year-old woman from Kleve.
The impact of the collision caused the Opel to spin to the right, across the road, and come to a stop against the concrete barrier. Debris from the Opel ended up on the opposite lane, posing a danger to oncoming traffic.
The 66-year-old woman was severely injured in the accident and was taken to a hospital by emergency services. The 29-year-old woman also sustained severe injuries and was taken to another hospital.
The 42-year-old woman from Mönchengladbach, who was driving the Seat, was not physically harmed but was understandably shaken by the incident.
The highway was closed in the direction of Nijmegen for approximately an hour due to the accident. Traffic was able to pass the accident site on one lane during the cleanup process. The road was reopened at around 20:05.
Preliminary estimates put the total damage from the accident at around 80,000 euros. Local authorities are investigating the incident and encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
