Motorcyclist Peri Cunha perishes during a test run at the Curvelo racing track
A devastating accident during the fourth round of the Brazilian Motorcycle Speed Championship has claimed the life of 36-year-old motorcycle racer, Peri Cunha. The incident occurred on August 2, 2025, at the Curvelo circuit (Circuito dos Cristais) in Minas Gerais, during the qualifying practice for the Mottu Endurance category.
The accident took place at 11:51 AM in curve 7 of the track. Peri Cunha received immediate medical attention from the Moto1000GP medical team at the Circuito dos Cristais. Despite all efforts, Peri Cunha did not survive, and his death was confirmed at 1:05 PM.
The official event organizers, including MOTO1000GP and the Brazilian Motorcycling Confederation, have launched an investigation into the causes of the crash, but have yet to release specific details about the accident. As a result, all scheduled training and races for that day were canceled out of respect and safety concerns.
Peri Cunha was a well-respected racer, having won the Superbike Brasil Light category in 2023. He was also an instructor in sport riding. Originally from Piracicaba, São Paulo, he was a beloved figure in the motorcycling community.
