Motorcycle riders accused of performing illegal street races
Two motorcyclists, a 22-year-old man from Cambridge and a 20-year-old woman from Woodbridge, were charged by the Guelph Police Service for stunt driving and driving with obstructed license plates. The incident occurred on Guelph roads around 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to a media release issued by the police, the motorcyclists were traveling at an excessive speed along Stone Road West. It appeared that they were racing, and their behavior caught the attention of an officer. The officer followed the motorcyclists onto the Hanlon Expressway.
The officer's suspicions were further confirmed when he noticed that the license plates on both motorcycles were obstructed. On the bikes, the license plates were tucked under the bodywork so they would not be visible from the rear, and both license plates were attached to hinges.
As a result of the charges, both individuals' licenses were suspended for 30 days, and their motorcycles were impounded for 14 days. A conviction on a stunt driving charge would result in a minimum license suspension of one year. The minimum fine for a stunt driving conviction is $2,000.
In addition to the stunt driving charges, both motorcyclists were also charged with driving with obstructed license plates. The police stated that the pair 'should get used to walking.'
This incident serves as a reminder to all road users to adhere to traffic laws and regulations for the safety of everyone on the roads. The Guelph Police Service encourages anyone with information about suspicious activities to contact them immediately.
