Motorbike manufacturer KTM has introduced the 160 Duke model in the Indian market, with the RC 160 expected to follow suit in the coming weeks.

KTM Introduces the 160 Duke: A Powerful and Connected Streetfighter

KTM, the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer known for its high-performance bikes, has expanded its Indian lineup with the introduction of the KTM 160 Duke. This latest addition to KTM's motorcycle family is aimed at the premium 150-160cc segment and is set to compete notably against the Yamaha MT-15.

Key Features and Specifications

The KTM 160 Duke is equipped with a 164.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled BS6 engine, producing 19 PS power at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm torque at 7,500 rpm. The bike comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and features WP Apex inverted front fork (138mm travel) and WP Apex monoshock rear (161mm travel) for optimal performance.

The bike boasts 320 mm front disc brakes and 230 mm rear disc brakes with switchable ABS, ensuring reliable stopping power. The 160 Duke rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, lighter than those on the KTM Duke 200, and it has a seat height of 815 mm, ground clearance of 174 mm, and a tank capacity of 10.1 liters.

The bike's instrumentation includes a 5-inch LCD console with smartphone connectivity, offering turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, and music control. The KTM 160 Duke is available in two paint themes: the signature Orange and Black of KTM, as well as a Blue and White with Orange coloured elements.

The KTM 160 Duke will start shipping to dealers on August 12 and is priced at approximately ₹1.85 lakh (ex-showroom), making it KTM’s cheapest bike in India. The bike is estimated to offer a mileage of about 37 kmpl.

The Upcoming KTM RC 160

KTM is also working on an RC 160, which will come as the most affordable RC model in the brand's lineup in India and will be launched in a few weeks. While detailed specifications for the KTM RC 160 have not been fully confirmed yet, it is expected to share many mechanical components with the 160 Duke, including the same 160cc engine.

The RC 160 will be a faired sportsbike version, appealing to customers looking for a stylish and aerodynamic motorcycle in the quarter-liter sport segment. It is expected to feature similar 17-inch alloy wheels, WP suspension, and ByBre braking hardware, possibly with ABS.

Market Impact

By offering a more affordable entry price with feature-rich packaging, KTM aims to attract young riders wanting performance and technology. The 160 Duke competes directly with the Yamaha MT-15, offering slightly higher power and more modern connected features but with a slightly heavier curb weight.

KTM's strong dealership and service network in India (733 showrooms, 422 service centers) supports customer confidence and brand presence. The company is targeting the premium 150-160cc segment which is currently dominated by Yamaha MT-15.

Overall, the KTM 160 Duke and KTM RC 160 signify KTM’s strong push to consolidate and expand its presence in India’s growing premium sub-200cc motorcycle segment by offering an attractive blend of performance, technology, and value.

The KTM 160 Duke, with its advanced features and powerful engine, represents KTM's commitment to the sports motorcycle segment, aiming to cater to young riders seeking performance and technology. The forthcoming KTM RC 160, a faired sportsbike version, is expected to replicate many mechanical components with the 160 Duke and attract customers desiring a stylish and aerodynamic motorcycle in the quarter-liter sport segment.
