Mother Climbs 41 Stories With Child to Honor 9/11 Heroes in Tampa Tribute
In a poignant tribute, Jarshekia Kowaleskia carried her young child on her back as she climbed 41 stories in full gear, honouring the heroes of 9/11. The Tunnel to Towers Stair Climb, held in Tampa, was organised by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, established in memory of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller who lost his life on that fateful day. The event raised funds for the foundation, which supports families of fallen heroes and veterans nationwide.
The Tunnel to Towers Stair Climb saw dozens of local first responders, including District Chief Kyle Miller, honour the 343 firefighters who died on 9/11. Retired NYPD officer Daniel Rodriguez, affectionately known as the 'Singing Policeman,' kicked off the main event by performing the National Anthem. The foundation, founded by Frank Siller in 2001 following the September 11 attacks, continues to expand its mission, paying off Gold Star families' mortgages and building tiny homes for homeless veterans nationwide.
Participants climbed the equivalent of the World Trade Center's height, symbolising the heroic efforts of first responders who rushed to the scene on 9/11. Kowaleskia's climb was particularly moving, as she carried her child on her back, mirroring the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives while saving others.
The Tunnel to Towers Stair Climb in Tampa was more than just a physical challenge; it was a testament to the courage and sacrifice of those who lost their lives on 9/11.
