Mosquitoes Essen: Gearing Up for the New Season
Amidst financial woes, the Mosquitoes Essen are pressing forward with their plans for the upcoming season. After securing Mikhail Nemirovsky as their new coach and extending Lukas Mannes' contract, the team's focus is on the Oberliga.
"I'm pumped for the new season and honor-bound to rock that Mosquitoes Essen jersey once more," declares Mannes. "It feels bloody fantastic to be a part of this team for another year."
Mannes' Minimal Impact Last Season
Stepping onto the field before the past season under ex-coach Danny Albrecht, Mannes, age 24, held a marginal role. Most of the season found him manning the third defensive line. Albrecht, however, had expressed his belief in Mannes' potential, asserting he could become a premier defender in the league.
On the Horizon
In the upcoming season, Mannes, with six points (two goals, four assists) in 47 games, gets another crack at it. Notable is his past experience with coach Frank Petrozza, who will train the Duisburg Foxes next season. After Petrozza, he moved to the Dresden Ice Lions, but only played for the TecArt Black Dragons Erfurt on a support license in the Oberliga. Mannes made a return to Essen last summer. Besides Mannes, Fabio Frick also recently extended his contract.
** contractual Stalemate**
The contractual status of the rest of the team remains unclear at this moment. At the end of March, the Mosquitoes publicized on Instagram that Edmunds Augstkalns, Sandis Zolmanis, Elvijs Biezais, Ralf Rinke, Daniel Weiß, Justus Roth, Lukas Valasek and Lennart Otten have valid contracts for the new season.
As the club remains tight-lipped regarding any changes due to the opening of an insolvency procedure for the Spielbetriebs GmbH & Co. KG, any developments are eagerly awaited. The team is slated to offer an update in another video statement due on Wednesday evening.
