Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport recovers after winter weather chaos disrupts flights
Sheremetyevo Airport experienced significant disruptions on January 9 and 10 due to severe winter weather in the Moscow region. Heavy snow and icy conditions led to delays, cancellations, and additional restrictions on arrivals. Airlines, including Aeroflot and Spirit Airlines, worked to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
The problems began on January 9, when extreme weather hit the Moscow area. Snowstorms and freezing temperatures caused widespread delays and forced some flights to be grounded. By January 10, extra restrictions on incoming flights made the situation worse, leading to further cancellations and hold-ups.
Aeroflot announced plans to gradually return to its usual schedule from 6:00 PM on January 10. The airline aimed to restore full daily operations at Sheremetyevo by January 11. CEO Sergei Aleksandrovsky confirmed that a complete recovery was expected by 8:00 AM the following morning. Passengers were advised to check for updates, as some flights remained cancelled. Those still operating followed the standard timetable unless previously announced otherwise.

Sergei Aleksandrovsky provided the final timetable for full operations, ensuring flights resumed as planned by January 11. Travellers can expect regular schedules moving forward, though earlier cancellations remain in effect.
