Power Restoration in the Moscow Region Progresses Amid Historic Blizzard
Moscow's energy system experienced a substantial accident, one of the biggest in the last 15 years, according to the "Rosset" report.
In a significant turn of events, the Moscow region is battling one of the largest power outages in the last 15 years, as revealed by Alexander Pyatigory. This monumental incident overshadows the power disruptions caused by the infamous ice storm in 2011, according to Pyatigory, who shared his insights on the Telegram channel 360.ru.
The ongoing restoration work faces challenges due to issues accessing the affected areas, which are marshy or lack proper road infrastructure, as Pyatigory noted. The energy workers are engaged in restoring kilometers of networks and in some instances, recreating the lines from scratch.
The workforce encompasses 146 teams, including 399 individuals and 158 pieces of equipment, as indicated by the company "Rosseti Moscow Region."
The cause of this catastrophe was attributed to extreme weather conditions for early May: a cyclone with wet snow, strong winds of up to 15 meters per second, which resulted in ice on the wires and fallen trees. The company detailed the impact primarily on the northwest and west regions, including the Istrinsky, Ruza, and Dmitrov districts, Sergiev Posad, Klin, and Solnechnogorsk. Pyatigory stated that power will be restored by the evening of May 3, with the possibility of continued work on requests on May 4 to entirely resolve the electricity supply issue.
On the morning of May 3, more than 2,500 energy facilities had been restored, restoring power to 485 settlements, reported the press service of "Rosseti Moscow Region." Regrettably, over 18,000 residents are still without electricity according to the emergency services of the Moscow region.
