Moscow shatters 2025 temperature record with unseasonable March warmth
Moscow experienced its warmest day of 2025 on Friday, March 27. By mid-afternoon, temperatures at VDNKh had already climbed to 14°C, breaking the previous high for the year. Forecasters also warned of light rain alongside the unseasonable warmth.
The mercury hit 14°C (57°F) by 3 p.m., surpassing the earlier peak of 13.8°C recorded on March 13. Meteorologists noted that the final peak temperature for the day would only be confirmed after 9 p.m.
Mikhail Leus, a weather expert, had earlier predicted unusually warm conditions for Moscow and the surrounding region in the coming days. His forecast also ruled out any further snowfall for the capital this spring. While historical climate data describes Moscow's typical pattern of cold winters and variable summers, no detailed comparisons for 2025's temperature trends were available at the time. The day's warmth, however, stood out clearly against the cooler weather seen so far this year.
The record-breaking warmth marked a shift in Moscow's spring weather. With no snow expected and light rain accompanying the higher temperatures, the city's residents faced a milder end to March. Official confirmation of the day's peak temperature was still pending as of Friday evening.
