Moscow hosts groundbreaking youth wrestling tournaments with a second-chance twist
More than a thousand young wrestlers will gather again in the capital's Sports Training Center "Triumph" at once in three tournaments in freestyle wrestling for prizes of JSC "AK "Zheleznye dorogi Yakutii" in honor of the Honored Master of Sports, Olympic champion Pavel Pinigin.
The competitions will take place from April 6 to 10 among young men up to 16 and up to 18 years old, which has three scales - Republican, All-Russian and International, they are dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the victory at the XXI Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 by P. P. Pinigin.
The arrival of young wrestlers from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Dagestan, Chechen Republic, North Ossetia (Alania), Krasnoyarsk Krai, Bryansk Oblast, Buryatia, Zabaykalsky Krai, Tyva and the uluses of the republic is expected. Sakhapress was informed about this in the Republican center for the preparation of sports reserve of the RS (Y).
It is planned that 218 participants will participate in the International tournament (April 9-10), 325 participants in the All-Russian tournament (April 8-9) and 416 participants in the Republican tournament (April 7-8).
These competitions in the format of "three in one" are held since 2018 and, importantly, younger young men traditionally fight according to old rules, that is, with elimination after two defeats. Pavel Pavlovich insists on this every year, as young wrestlers who came from distant uluses were knocked out because of excitement in the first very grip, and therefore after one round they left with nothing.
Now they have one more chance to show themselves after a defeat, even to reach the medals.
- We must work on making more competitive practice for the guys and then they will grow in mastery, - Pinigin said in one of the interviews.
Pinigin tournaments are the only competitions in the country that take place in this format and in three age categories in freestyle wrestling.
