Tit for Tat: Russia Offers Peace Mediation Between Musk and Trump

Moscow extends political asylum invitation to Musk following disagreement with Trump administration

Take a seat, folks! The tech world is buzzing with a juicy rivalry between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. As the Tesla bigwig and the ex-POTUS keep trading barbs, Moscow has stepped in with an intriguing proposition. Yep, you heard that right! Russia has offered to play peacemaker between these two warring giants, but what's in it for them?

According to Dmitri Novikov, deputy chairman of the State Duma's international affairs committee, Musk might be plotting on a whole different level. "Musk thinks he doesn't need political asylum, though Russia could grant it to him if he needs it," quipped Novikov jokingly, as reported by the state news agency Tass.

But don't worry, Russia's not meddling in America's internal affairs - at least, that's what they claim. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov made it clear at a press conference, "This is a US matter. We will not interfere or comment on it in any way." So, there you have it! Moscow keeps its nose clean, but the intrigue remains.

Earlier, Dmitri Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council and a man known for his robust anti-Western rhetoric, playfully proposed Moscow as a mediator between Musk and President Trump, exchanging Starlink shares for peace talks. "Don't fight, guys," he wrote on his X account.

The drama began when Musk publicly criticized the "Big Beautiful Bill" of the Trump administration, calling it a "disgusting abomination." The bill aims for comprehensive tax and spending reforms, potentially increasing the US national debt.

For now, it seems reconciliation between the two is a long shot. Trump bashed Musk on his social media platform, Truth Social, labeling him as "crazy." Reports suggest that Trump has declined a clarifying conversation, according to White House circles in Washington.

Musk's Sympathizers in Russia?

So, what about Russia's sympathies for Elon Musk? Well, it's complicated. Initially, Musk backed Ukraine and provided his Starlink satellite systems to improve military communication. But his stance shifted as he started aligning more with Russian narratives, like falsely claiming that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had little support in Ukraine.

As a result, Musk's statements received praise from Russian officials and propagandists - including state television hosts and military bloggers - who now view him as a sympathetic figure. Despite this, it's unclear whether Musk's stance on Ukraine has directly increased Russian sympathies towards him. The Russian offer of asylum seems more like a playful jab at the ongoing US political drama, rather than a genuine show of support for Musk's views on Ukraine.

The Commission, in light of the escalating rivalry between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, is also proposing to extend the deadline for the adoption of new rules regarding politics and general-news, given the increasing involvement of foreign entities in internal US affairs.

Musk's controversial statements regarding Ukraine have garnered him praise from Russian officials and propagandists, signaling potential Russian sympathies towards Musk, although the motives behind Russia's offer of asylum appear more of a strategic maneuver in the ongoing US political drama rather than a genuine show of support for Musk's views on Ukraine.
