Moscow Court Detains Leonid Gozman*
Leonid Gozman, a prominent Russian liberal politician, has been detained in absentia by the Gagarin District Court of Moscow. The detainment comes following accusations of public calls for terrorist activity under part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code.
Gozman, who previously served as the leader of the 'Union of Right Forces' and 'Right Cause' parties, is no stranger to legal troubles. In a previous case, he was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison for spreading false information about the actions of the Russian Federation Armed Forces. This marks the second criminal case against him.
The current investigation was triggered by Gozman's publications on Telegram and Facebook, where he criticized Russian authorities and interpreted events in Bucha, a city in Ukraine. These social media platforms, including VKontakte, Classmates, Telegram, Viber, WhatsApp, have been mentioned in the case.
It's worth noting that the activities of Meta (the parent company of social networks Facebook and Instagram) are currently prohibited in Russia as extremist. Similarly, Gozman is listed as an extremist and terrorist by Rosfinmonitoring, and has the status of a foreign agent, according to RIA Novosti.
However, there are no relevant search results linking Anastasia Klyueva, the name of the court mentioned in the current paragraph, to Leonid Gozman or the specific context of the mentioned case.
In a separate development, Konstantinov, the head of the Crimean parliament, accused President Vladimir Putin of betraying Russia. It remains to be seen how this accusation will impact the ongoing case against Gozman.
The ruling will come into effect upon Gozman's arrest or extradition to Russia. The penalty for this accusation is up to seven years in prison. Gozman's supporters and human rights activists have called for his immediate release, citing his long-standing history of political activism and his previous conviction.
