Moscow braces for dense fog and black ice under yellow weather alert

A yellow weather alert has been issued for the Moscow region and Moscow Oblast from the evening of November 12 until the morning of November 13. Dense fog and potential black ice on roads are expected during this period.

The alert comes as a thin, unstable snow cover of 1 to 3 centimeters is predicted to form over the weekend. Motorists are advised to take extra caution, especially in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, when black ice is possible.

Temperatures are expected to rise on November 14, with overnight highs of 5°C (41°F) and daytime highs of 9°C (48°F), making it the warmest day of the week. However, the region will experience its first light frost on November 15 and 16, as Moscow initially lies in the warm sector of a cyclone before shifting into its rear.

The weather alert is in effect from 9:00 p.m. on November 12 until 9:00 a.m. on November 13. Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions. Searches for information about a Russian meteorological center or weather warnings for the Moscow region did not yield results regarding this specific alert; however, discussions about a Czech flood from a year ago were prevalent.
