Moscow airports expected to resume operations at 18:00, according to the Transport Ministry's forecast
Latest Update: With the clock striking 6 PM in Moscow on May 8, 2025, it's time to resume the ordinary flight schedule, as confirmed by the Ministry of Transport's press service. All airports operative in the Moscow region are running smoothly, receiving and sending off flights.
The Ministry's data revealed that 94 flights were delayed for takeoff and landing at Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky airports. Close to 14,000 people would be transported on these delayed flights, as specified by the Ministry.
As of May 7, 23:45 Moscow Standard Time, authorities mentioned that 165 out of 186 aircraft that landed at alternate airports had returned to their original destinations, according to Rosaviation's representative, Artem Korenyako. Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, serving as an alternate airport, reported handling all flights, and most of the diverted aircraft were on their way to their destinations. The airport is currently functioning normally, with no congestion reported.
Both Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo airports reported an absence of congestion. According to official statements, there are no conspicuous deviations from the schedule at the moment. Any minor schedule changes displayed on the airport monitors are attributed to the restoration of schedules gradually. Passenger traffic is evenly distributed across all functional zones of the terminal, ensuring the situation remains steady without any queues or large gatherings.
The travel disruptions arising from restrictions in the central Russian airports' operations on May 6 and 7 affected approximately 60,000 passengers, as estimated by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia. Roughly one-third of flights in Moscow experienced delays or cancellations, averaging a delay time of three hours and 20 minutes for departures and arrivals, as reported by the Association.
On May 7, the Ministry of Transport announced that they were monitoring the aviation situation closely in collaboration with Rosaviation. Airline providers were urged to exercise discretion in their tariff policies, bolster their staff, enhance call center functionality, and update passengers on flight performance changes.
