Morning's Hurricane Glow
Pforzheim experienced the passage of Storm "Burglind" on January 3, 2018, as the city was swept by heavy rain. The storm, known for its wind speed of up to 120 km/h (wind speed 12 on the Beaufort scale), left its mark on the city.
A strip of the bus stop canopy at the "Schuetzle Underpass" broke off during the storm, and barriers at construction sites, such as those at the Sparkasse construction site on Poststraße and at Kelterstraße, were blown over. A tree in the Rod area fell, damaging a resident's garden fence and vehicle.
Trash cans, recycling bins, and yellow bags were moved unplanned across the city, and large puddles remain on the roads, requiring drivers to exercise caution to avoid splashing pedestrians. Employees have been clearing clogged gutters and drains in the city since early morning.
Despite the minor damage, the storm caused, it seems the past days' storms have made people more aware of the situation. The German Weather Service continues to warn of wind gusts between 80 and 100 km/h, with up to 120 km/h in exposed areas.
