Morgan Wallen's representatives confirm the song "I'm the Problem" will not be submitted for Grammy Awards consideration.
Morgan Wallen Steps Away from Grammy Awards
Morgan Wallen, the world's most popular country artist, has decided not to submit himself or his latest album "I'm the Problem" for Grammy Awards. This decision comes after a series of controversies and at-times questionable behaviour that have kept him at odds with both the country and music-industry establishments.
Despite his absence from the Grammy race, Wallen's album "I'm the Problem" has already achieved significant success on various Billboard charts. The album, which features 37 tracks, has spent 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200. It has also launched four No. 1s on Billboard's Country Airplay chart and boasts three chart-toppers on the Hot Country Songs chart.
One of the standout tracks from the album, a duet with Tate McRae titled "What I Want," even topped the Hot 100 chart. Wallen's gargantuan sales and streaming numbers contribute significantly to various businesses' revenue, making him a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
The only Grammy nod Wallen has received was for his work on Post Malone's "F1 Trillion" album. However, his issues appear to be more based in Nashville than with the Recording Academy's nationwide base. Wallen and his team will not ask songwriters who contributed to the album to submit their works for Grammy consideration.
Over the past 15 years, several major artists have boycotted the Grammys due to perceived unfair treatment by its voting body or management. The Recording Academy has worked hard to rebuild relationships with these artists and has largely succeeded, with Jay-Z, Beyoncé, the Weeknd, and others returning to the fold in recent years.
In the wake of Wallen's decision, other popular country musicians with a style similar to Morgan Wallen who could submit for the Grammy Awards include Jelly Roll, known for blending country rock with hip-hop influences and having recent commercial success with albums topping the Billboard Country Charts.
Despite his success on various Billboard charts, Wallen's album "I'm the Problem" has not received Grammy nominations. Whether this will change in the future remains to be seen, but for now, Wallen seems content to let his music speak for itself, outside the realm of the Grammy Awards.
