Morgan Geekie’s breakout season fuels Bruins’ playoff push under Sturm

Morgan Geekie has become a standout player for the Boston Bruins this season. After a slow start, he now leads the team in goals and boasts the hardest shot in the NHL. His performance has helped keep the Bruins in playoff contention under new coach Marco Sturm.

Meanwhile, several other teams have also fought their way back into the playoff race as the 2025-2026 season nears its midpoint.

Geekie began the 2024 season with a few healthy scratches but soon found his rhythm. His shot power has been a highlight, with one blast recorded at 103.3 miles per hour on November 11—the fastest in the League this year. Currently, he tops the Bruins with 25 goals and ranks second on the team’s website with 50 goals since January 1, 2025.

Under first-year coach Marco Sturm, the Bruins hold a 20-17-1 record, earning 41 points. They sit just one point outside a wild-card spot with 44 games left. The team’s improved play has silenced critics, as players have embraced Sturm’s tactics and executed well. Beyond Boston, multiple franchises have surged back into contention. The Florida Panthers, Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, and Nashville Predators have all strengthened their playoff chances in recent weeks. In other news, Canada’s search for a chef de mission for the 2026 Milano–Cortina Winter Olympics continues. Media reports suggest former Olympic biathlete Myriam Bedard and ex-speed-skating executive Steve Podborski are among the leading candidates. Canadian Olympic Committee insiders are also under consideration for the role.

Geekie’s standout season has kept the Bruins competitive in the Eastern Conference. With nearly half the campaign remaining, their playoff push will depend on maintaining this momentum. Meanwhile, the race for Olympic leadership roles heats up as Canada prepares for the 2026 Games.
