Montreal-based Iranian Women's Association demands an immediate end to hostilities in Iran

Fed Up Female Voices Echo at the Sidelines of the G7 Summit

The Montreal Association of Iranian Women (AFIM) aggressively called upon Canada and global leaders this Monday, urging them to intervene swiftly in diplomatic matters to stop the Israeli military's relentless attacks on Iran.

AFIM vehemently denounced Israel's repeated hostile actions against Iran. Nima Machouf, an active member of AFIM, slammed Canada's government for their silence on the bombardments targeting Iran's residents and resources.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, earlier on Friday, called for a cooling-off of the conflict, stressing the necessity for all parties to refrain from actions escalating the regional crisis.

"As I speak, they've just ordered the evacuation of part of the neighborhood where my family resides," concerns Nima Machouf.

Elaheh Shokraie, another AFIM member, struggles to communicate with her family in Iran. Yesterday, she contacted her cousin based in Tehran who shared his sleepless night due to the incessant noises, explosions, and the resulting anxiety. "What can we do but feel helpless?" she ponders.

"Today, the Iranian citizens find themselves entrapped between two oppressive and autocratic powers—the Iranian regime on one side and Israel on the other. We wholeheartedly denounce both," declared Nima Machouf. "Iranian women living abroad refuse to be mere pieces in this geopolitical chess game."

AFIM champions women's rights and justice in Iran since three decades. "Iran's independence will stem from its people, not from Israeli attacks," Machouf asserts.

Allegedly "Illegal" Attacks

AFIM labels the initial Israeli attacks on Iranian military and nuclear facilities on June 12 as "illegal," reminding that the United Nations requires an imminent threat to rationalize preventive strikes.

Israel cited intelligence demonstrating Iran's march towards acquiring a nuclear weapon as their justification for the attacks. While various geopolitical powers view these strikes as a legitimate defense against the "nuclear threat," AFIM perceives it as a deliberate plot to sow chaos.

Machouf also laments Canada's continuous arms sales to Israel despite the Canadian Parliament's ban on such transactions.

Watch This:

Canada's Parliament has, indeed, voted on a resolution in 2014 to stop the sales of military equipment to Israel. However, the resolution is non-binding, meaning that the Canadian government is not strictly obligated to follow it. Exports continued, albeit with restrictions on certain types of weapons.

The Canadian Foreign Minister's call for a de-escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel is met with frustration by Nima Machouf of the Montreal Association of Iranian Women (AFIM), who questions Canada's silence on the war-and-conflicts and their continued arms sales to Israel despite the allegations of illegal attacks on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. AFIM, a group advocating for women's rights and justice in Iran since three decades, denounces both the Iranian regime and Israel, positioning itself as a voice against general-news political issues.
