News Article: Prime Minister Montenegro to Discuss Civil Protection at PSD's Pontal Festival

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro is set to address the audience at the PSD's Pontal Festival in Quarteira, Algarve, this Thursday, where he is expected to focus on the need for reflection and future reforms of the Civil Protection system.

This will be Montenegro's first visit to Pontal as Prime Minister, and he is expected to emphasize the government's reflections on the operational capacity of Civil Protection without launching new measures. Montenegro has previously stated that it is not the right moment to discuss reforms while emergency operatives are still actively working on the ground.

However, ahead of the festival, Montenegro has just announced a forest protection plan for 2025-2050, which includes 45 measures to support populations affected by recent devastating wildfires. These measures were adopted at an extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting on the Friday before the festival, aiming to aid affected families and companies without declaring a state of calamity, relying instead on accelerated legislative procedures.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the European Union for financial and logistical support to combat the fires. It is unclear if Montenegro will make any specific announcements during the PSD's Pontal Festival on Thursday, but the recent government actions and the forest protection plan are likely to form the context of his remarks.

Cristóvão Norte, the president of the Faro district and local council candidate, will deliver a speech before Montenegro takes the stage. The festival begins at 18:30, with political interventions starting at 19:45, and it will close at 23:30.

Meanwhile, other political parties such as the PS, PCP, CDS-PP, PAN, IL, Livre, and BE have their own events scheduled in the coming weeks. The PS will hold its Autárquica Convention on September 6 in Coimbra, while the PCP will host the Festa do Avante on September 5, 6, and 7 at the Quinta da Atalaia, in Seixal. The CDS-PP's 'back-to-school' event will be on September 6 in Vale de Cambra, and the IL will hold its 'back-to-school' event on August 30 in Albufeira. The BE will host its Socialism Forum between August 30 and 31 in Coimbra, and Livre will hold its 'back-to-school' event in Porto, though the details have not been announced yet.

Since becoming PSD leader in 2022, Montenegro has used the 'back-to-school' event to announce new measures for the country. However, it seems that this year's event will focus more on reflection and discussion rather than immediate announcements.
