West Coast of India Braces for Squally Conditions and Heavy Rain

A weather forecast for the west coast of India, including Kerala and Karnataka, over the next 5 days (August 27–31, 2025) indicates mostly squally conditions with moderate to strong winds and chances of rain or thundershowers, especially in Kerala.

Kerala and Karnataka Coast

Rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places in Kerala, with intermittent wet weather expected. Coastal Karnataka is forecasted to experience squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 40 to 55 kmph gusting up to 60–65 kmph, making it a rough period for fishing activities along the coast.

Bengaluru

Inland Bengaluru, part of Karnataka state, will have temperatures ranging between 78°F and 82°F with scattered clouds and moderate wind from the west around 13 mph. No heavy rain is forecast for the city itself for the next 5 days, but conditions remain warm and humid.

West Coast (Goa, Konkan, Gujarat)

For the broader west coast, squally winds of 45–60 kmph gusting to 65–70 kmph are forecasted, potentially leading to rough seas.

Monsoon Progression

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has mentioned that conditions are becoming favourable for the monsoon progression over Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. Private weather forecasting agencies have been opted for by Kerala due to uncertainties in the traditional monsoon forecasting system.

Northeast India

Northeast India, specifically Assam & Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, are forecasted to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 21st to 26th.

Elsewhere in India

Delhi is expected to experience relief through thunderstorms and dust-laden winds from May 21st to 22nd, with temperatures dropping slightly. Warm night conditions are expected in Punjab and parts of Rajasthan from May 21st to 22nd. West and East Rajasthan will experience severe heatwave conditions and duststorms from May 21st to 23rd.

Heavy rain is also expected in South Interior Karnataka on May 25th and 26th, in the Ghat areas of Tamil Nadu on May 21st, and in Andhra Pradesh & Rayalaseema on May 21st-22nd. Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions will prevail over West Rajasthan, East Rajasthan, and South Haryana from May 21st to 23rd.

*Table*

This forecast suggests vigilance is needed for marine activities near the Karnataka coast and some rain showers along Kerala’s coast in the next five days.
