Mondo Duplantis surpasses world record with another astounding leap
Mondo Duplantis Breaks World Pole Vault Record for the Third Time in 2025
In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, Swedish-American pole vaulter Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis set a new world record at the Memorial Istvan Gyulai in Budapest on Tuesday. Duplantis, who is widely regarded as the greatest pole vaulter of all time, raised the bar to 6.29 meters, surpassing his own record set in Stockholm in June.
The 25-year-old competed in a duel with Greek Emmanouil Karalis, both clearing 6.02 meters in their first attempts. However, Karalis retired after two failures at 6.11 meters, while Duplantis managed to add a centimeter to his own record with a successful clearance on his second attempt.
Duplantis's victory at the gold-level event in the World Athletics Continental Tour marks a significant milestone in his already impressive career. In 2023, he won the World Outdoor Championship in the same stadium where he set a new record of 6.25 meters.
This year's achievements include breaking his own world record with a clearance of 6.28 meters and then surpassing that again with a 6.29-meter vault in Budapest. Duplantis also won the World Indoor Championship in 2025, further extending his incredible streak.
Duplantis's sustained excellence and record-breaking progression have solidified his status as the most outstanding pole vaulter in history. His achievements include two Olympic gold medals (2020 and 2024/Paris), multiple world and European titles, and 13 world records set by 2025.
Meanwhile, in other sports news, Athletic and Villarreal are leading a wide-open fight for Europe. Atletico Madrid's Liga candidacy hinges on bolstering Julian Alvarez, while the EU reaffirms Ukraine's role in negotiations and issues a message warning Russia, without Hungary's involvement.
