Monday's TV lineup featuring a brand new documentary on Matthew Perry, a well-known actor
In the world of reality TV, the UK is joining the ranks of the Real Housewives franchises with the debut of The Real Housewives of London, airing on Hayu. The show features six stylish women living in some of London's poshest postcodes, much like the US versions of the series. The cast includes Juliet Mayhew, originally from Australia, and Panthea Parker, born in Iran, among others. The show focuses on fashion, gossip, and dinner party blow-ups, offering a glimpse into the lives of the British elite.
Meanwhile, the world of documentaries is delving into a tragic story with the release of Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy. The one-hour film, available on ITV1 and ITVX, explores the life, struggles, and untimely death of the beloved Friends actor, Matthew Perry. The documentary has been updated since its US premiere to include new developments in the trial of Dr. Salvador Plascencia, charged with supplying Perry ketamine.
The film offers insights into Perry's battles with addiction, featuring candid interviews with his Friends co-star and onscreen mother, Morgan Fairchild, alongside Hollywood insiders, journalists, medical experts, and Martin Estrada, who was the District Attorney for Central District of California during the time of Perry’s death. It details the circumstances of Perry's death in October 2023, attributed to the acute effects of ketamine, with his assistant discovering him unresponsive in his jacuzzi.
The documentary reveals incriminating evidence, including disturbing text messages between doctors involved in supplying ketamine to Perry, highlighting a callous and profit-driven attitude by those involved. Five people have been arrested in connection with the supply of ketamine leading to Perry’s death, with one known as the "Ketamine Queen" pleading guilty to multiple charges.
The film has emotionally impacted fans, who have expressed grief publicly following its airing, underscoring Perry's enduring impact on audiences worldwide. It serves not only as a tribute to Perry’s career but also as an investigative account of the legal and ethical failures surrounding his final days.
On a different note, art enthusiasts will be intrigued by the episode of Fake or Fortune? airing on BBC1 at 8 pm. Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould, the hosts of the art investigation series, revisit two paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. These paintings, which feature Black sitters, were initially investigated by Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould in 2018 and have finally gotten the recognition they deserve, now hanging in prestigious London art galleries seven years later.
