Trump Announces Trade Talks with China Next Week: What's the Scoop?

Monday's agenda includes custom discussions between Trump and China

Gear up, folks! The US President, Donnie D, has announced a fresh round of trade talks with China's Xi Jinping, scheduled to take place in London next week. His finance and trade minions, Scott Bessent and Howard Lutnick, alongside trade rep Jamieson Greer, will huddle up with a Chinese delegation to discuss the goods. Trump's optimistic about the gathering, exclaiming, "This meeting should go very well!"

The conversation between Trump and Xi marks the President's first dialogue since the second term began. They chatted for a good hour, and based on Trump's account, the talk ended on a high note. But the trade war story didn't start just recently. In April, Trump slapped a whopping 145% tariff on China, and China retaliated with its own high tariffs. However, in mid-May, peace seemed to have a chance as the two nations agreed to drastically reduce their tariffs for an initial 90-day period, to calm the stormy waters of negotiations.

But that's not all! A hidden gem has surfaced from Washington - the US government has reportedly put a stop to the delivery of spare parts for Chinese nuclear power plants. Insiders claim the US Department of Commerce has ordered a suspension of relevant licenses. Yep, you heard it right! The deal affects exports of parts and equipment for nukes, with some estimates suggesting hundreds of millionsworth of contracts are now up in smoke.

When asked to comment, the Department of Commerce had little to say. Last week, a spokesperson did mention they were reviewing exports of strategic goods to China. Time will tell how China responds to this nuclear shift in relations!
