Monarchs King Felipe and Queen Letizia pay a visit to the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt
The Spanish royals, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, have embarked on their first official State Visit to Egypt, marking a four-day journey to the North African nation. The trip officially began on Tuesday with a farewell ceremony at Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain.
Upon arrival in Egypt, the Spanish royals were greeted by members of the Spanish community, including archaeologists, business leaders, and aid workers. King Felipe expressed his desire for peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and reconciliation in the Middle East, stating that a utopia of peace and stability may seem impossible, but it must be possible, and all must contribute to making it so.
The Spanish monarchs spent the first two days in Cairo, visiting various cultural and historical sites. Queen Letizia toured the Sultan Foundation's craft workshops and cultural center in Cairo Necropolis. She also opened a photography exhibition featuring the work of Egyptian artist Mohamed Mahdy and Spanish photographer Laura Silleras.
King Felipe inaugurated the Spain-Egypt Business Forum in Cairo, where he met separately with Spanish and Egyptian business leaders. He emphasized the desire for a stable environment for the development of peoples with dignity and justice in the Middle East.
During their stay in Cairo, the Spanish royals visited the Pyramids of Giza alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Entissar Amer El-Sisi. They also witnessed the spectacular sunset over the Pyramids of Giza. The visit to the ancient landmarks marked the first official trip to the southern Egyptian city of Luxor by Spanish monarchs since 2008.
The next leg of the trip will see the Spanish royals travelling to Luxor, where they are expected to visit various historical sites and engage with local communities. The visit aims to strengthen the diplomatic and cultural ties between Spain and Egypt, as well as to promote peace and development in the Middle East.
