Dresden - Football fever is back! Two weeks without a game was tough, but the Dresden Monarchs are back in action this Saturday (4 pm).
But thankfully, the spielfreie weekend couldn't have come at a better time. A health crisis was looming the week prior, threatening to wreak havoc on the Monarchs' roster.
"A pause was crucial. Just before the game against the Berlin Rebels, our center Hermann Schramm fell terribly ill. He made it to the stadium and was, well, barely conscious. We had to improvise, but that was just the start," recounts head coach Greg Seamon (69), who jetted off to his American homeland after the game.
"When I got home on Monday night, I received a message that it was a stomach bug and that several more players and some staff were infected too. Some were out for three to four days."
A Spectacular Showdown: Monarchs Outclass the RainTraining with a reduced and limited team became necessary. The health crisis also required an immediate halt.
"We wouldn't have been in a good condition to play last weekend. Thankfully, no one got sick before the Rebels game. The break came at a perfect moment for us," says Seamon.
The 69-year-old assures, "I've been back since Monday and I was told that everyone's feeling much better now."
At least that's one less worry ahead of their fourth season win in the fourth game, set to take place on Saturday at the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion. But the Hildesheim Invaders stand in their way. The Invaders are after revenge for their crushing defeat (19:47) against the Monarchs.
Finances on the Rise! Monarchs Set their Sights on Another RecordSeamon is hopeful for the fans' support: "The team is prepared and motivated to play for the fans! The players are incredibly grateful for the fans' support!"
