Under radiant sunshine and a scorching 29°C, the grand spectacle that is Royal Ascot morphed into a lavish family reunion for the British monarchy on Thursday. King Charles III (76) and Queen Camilla (77) didn't venture out on their own during the third day of the illustrious horse races - they topped up the guest list with a sizable contingent of their nearest and dearest, as detailed by "People" magazine.

A Regal Procession

In the traditional carriage procession, Charles' sister, Princess Anne, and her spouse, Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, rode alongside Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie. Another carriage was designated for Charles' niece, Princess Beatrice, and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The parade concluded with Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne, and her husband, Mike, the former rugby ace.

Traditionally known as "Ladies Day," the third day of Royal Ascot has evolved to become Gold Cup Day. The 2.5-mile race is one of the most revered events of the entire week. amongst the distinguished attendees for the trophy presentation were actors Joseph Fiennes, model Jerry Hall, and 80s pop sensation Chesney Hawkes.

A Timeless Tradition

The traditional occasion is a cornerstone in the royal summer calendar. This year, Royal Ascot is played out from June 17 to 21. Approximately 250,000 attendees are anticipated throughout the race week, many of whom flock to catch a glimpse of the king and his kin, or a few celebrities.

A Royal No-Show

The royal soiree unfolded a day after Prince William graced the races without his consort, Princess Kate. The 43-year-old opted to decline her attendance. Reportedly, she's taking steps to find the equilibrium as she makes her comeback to public appearances.

Last year, Kate found herself absent from Royal Ascot while undergoing chemotherapy. In March 2024, she disclosed her cancer diagnosis publicly. In September of the same year, she shared via a video message that her chemotherapy course had been completed.
