King Charles III's Artistic Tribute

King Charles III, our reigning monarch, commemorated a significant milestone in his rule by unveiling a stunning collection of artworks. Two years after his historic coronation at Westminster Abbey, these eye-catching masterpieces act as a testament to the unforgettable ceremony.

In an impressive display, Buckingham Palace shared a video featuring the King admiring the masterpieces himself. The culmination of five incredible artists' efforts, each painting critical moments from the coronation weekend, these artworks took months to bring to life.

The Prince of Wales played a significant part in the coronation ceremony. He kneeled before his father, vowing loyalty in a poignant moment forever immortalized by artist Eileen Hogan. Another notable portrait by Eileen Hogan was of Queen Camilla from the ceremony, which was also shared on the royal family's social media.

Prince William and Queen Camilla have been a rock of support for King Charles, especially during his cancer battle, which began in early 2024.

The artworks' revealing comes amidst Prince Harry's public call for reconciliation with his family following the rejection of his security appeal on Friday.

Behind the Scenes of the Commissioned Artworks

Four of the five contributing artists are alumni of the King's Royal Drawing School. Fraser Scarfe captured the spectacle outside Buckingham Palace, while Gideon Summerfield focused on the bustling crowds in Trafalgar Square. Inside Westminster Abbey, the solemnity of the coronation ceremony unfolding was captured by Phoebe Stannard, and Shana Lohrey captured the lively atmosphere at the coronation concert held at Windsor Castle. A contrasting visual take on the weekend’s events is provided by monochrome images in the collection [1].

One standout piece from the collection is Fraser Scarfe’s acrylic and oil work titled 'Saluting the crowds,' painted on 24 wooden panels. This breathtaking artwork beautifully encapsulates King Charles' grand procession in the Gold State Coach [1].

The Unveiling of State Portraits

In addition to the diverse commissioned artworks, official Coronation State Portraits of King Charles III and Queen Camilla were revealed on May 9, 2025, at the National Gallery. British artists Peter Kuhfeld and Paul Benney, respectively, created these official portraits, showcasing a formal and regal representation of the coronation [2][3][4].
