Moldova's national squad nearly claimed a victory over the four-time world champions, Italy, yet their triumph was swiftly thwarted; the goal was disallowed, resulting in a loss for Moldova.
Fresh Take:
The Moldovan squad, following a dismal start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, had little hope after consecutive losses to Norway and Estonia. But but who else if not the mighty Italians? Even on home turf, it seemed our vision wasn't what it used to be. Yet, I must admit, our team showed grit. They attacked with courage, even scoring a goal (courtesy of Nicolaescu) that could've been the game-changer, if not for that tiny offside call.
The Italians, though, stepped up their game. Our boys headed for halftime, nagging at the heels of the Azzurri. At the start of the second half, the hosts netted the second goal, effectively sealing the match. Despite gallant attempts at counterattacks, our lads couldn't outmaneuver the four-time world champions.
From there on, the game settled down. We tried to catch up, but against such formidable opponents, it was an uphill battle. The Italians, having secured their victory, took a breather. The game wound down, ending in a 0–2 defeat for Moldova. Alas...
With three matches under our belt, the Moldovan team remains pointless. Alas again...
