Moldovan oligarch Ilan Șor, backed by Russia, urged the public to support George Simion in the Romanian elections

In a shocking revelation, a criminal organization has been uncovered in the Republic of Moldova, accused of voter manipulation in the recent parliamentary elections. The group, coordinated by associates of fugitive Moldovan oligarch Ilan Șor, aimed to influence the elections in favour of certain candidates.

According to reports by deschide.md, the coordinators and leaders of this criminal organization are members close to Ilan Șor himself. Moldovan police discovered that the organization was orchestrated by associates of the fugitive oligarch, who instructed people to vote for George Simion during Romania's presidential elections.

Messages from phones of Șor's close associates showed coordination and leadership within this group. They engaged in illegal actions such as money transfers in rubles through Russian bank applications and the use of the "TAITO" app to gather personal data for these transfers. This criminal network used closed group chats and Telegram channels for direct communication from leaders and coordinators to their subordinates.

The same "TAITO" app was found to have been installed on citizens' phones by representatives of the criminal organization for illegal money transfers. Members were also found to be transferring, converting, liquidating, and distributing money obtained through the mobile application "PSB" of the Russian bank "Promsviazybank."

The two individuals detained in this case are defendants in another criminal case being examined by the court in Moldova. In May, G4Media reported that Ilan Șor directed his supporters to vote for George Simion. Simion and his allies have argued that Romania should provide no assistance to Moldova before a union takes place.

However, it's important to note that George Simion, who is banned from entering Moldova, presents himself as a supporter of the union between Romania and Moldova. In the second round of voting on May 18, 2025, approximately 88% of voters in the Republic of Moldova backed pro-EU candidate Nicusor Dan, indicating that the manipulation, if successful, may not have significantly altered the election results.

This criminal network's activities are a reminder of the ongoing fight against corruption and voter manipulation in the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan authorities are working diligently to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the integrity of future elections.
