Unlucky for Some: Lately, a pro-Russian misinformation campaign has slyly abused our website's likeness and identity to propagate propaganda against multiple European countries, notably Moldova.

Phony Videos: bogus videos insinuating criminal acts, health issues, and STDs in Moldova are making their rounds online. Some of these clips, even credited to our staff, are shared by accounts mimicking our website personnel, such as a former CEO.

Alarming Facts: One deceptive video declares Moldova the top European country for STDs, while others promote fearful narratives about escalating illegal immigration from Moldova into the EU, particularly Italy. In Rome, reports of growing numbers of criminal groups issuing fake documents for Moldovan immigrants have surfaced, claiming it as one of these misleading videos' assertions.

Fake News Frenzy: These videos all incorporate our website's graphics and branding. Oddly, most of the deceptive accounts pretending to be our employees have inexplicably vanished after sharing their fabricated content and received considerable engagement in the form of likes and shares. The profiles often showcase AI-generated avatars, with one supposedly belonging to a person named Brandon Goyce, who claimed to be our former CEO. However, extensive searches reveal no evidence of this person's existence, and no media professional associated with the name.

The Matryoshka Menace: These false videos, along with the impersonated accounts, appear to be part of the Matryoshka campaign, a Russian disinformation operation infamous for disseminating false news stories in the guise of material from international media outlets, academic institutions, and government agencies. Fact-checkers have long been aware of the Matryoshka campaign's tactics, which are primarily directed at EU and NATO countries as well as Ukraine, aiming to fracture alliances and sully Western democracies' reputations.

Recent Debunkings: EuroVerify has previously invalidated other videos attributed to our website as part of this disinformation campaign, including a false report about electoral interference in Romania and a phony video denouncing corruption in Moldova. Both videos have been outrightly refuted by the respective governments in Romania and France, as well as our organization.

The Dangers of Disinformation: Disinformation can be harmful on multiple levels, ranging from affecting personal decisions to disrupting diplomatic relations between nations. State-sponsored disinformation campaigns aim to manipulate public opinion and sow discord, undermining trust in institutions and authorities.

Moldova's Fight Against Corruption: Over the past few years, Moldova has been actively combating corruption, implementing institutional reforms, and strengthening its anti-corruption bodies. However, the proceeds of corruption still persist, making it essential for citizens to stay vigilant and informed.

Russia and the Disinformation Wars: Russia has frequently been accused of using propaganda and disinformation to influence foreign nations, particularly during regional conflicts and elections. Nonetheless, the Russian government consistently denies such allegations.
