Molchat Doma’s Sudno goes gold in the U.S. with 500K sales

Belarusian post-punk band Molchat Doma has achieved a major milestone in the U.S. Their single Sudno has now sold over 500,000 copies, earning a gold certification from the RIAA. The track is a musical adaptation of a well-known Russian poem.

The song Sudno draws its lyrics from The Enamel Vessel, a poem by Russian writer Konstantin Balmont. Originally, some sources mistakenly credited Boris Ryzhy as the poet, but the correct author is Balmont. This poetic foundation adds depth to the band’s signature darkwave sound.

First released as part of their 2020 album Monument, the track has steadily gained popularity. Its haunting melodies and poetic lyrics resonated with listeners, leading to its recent certification. The RIAA’s gold status confirms its commercial success in the American market.

Molchat Doma’s Sudno now stands as one of their most successful releases. The gold certification marks a rare achievement for a non-English-language band in the U.S. The song’s blend of post-punk and Russian poetry continues to attract a growing audience.
