Whoopsie! Niger State Clarifies Rice Distribution to Mokwa Flood Victims

Mokwa Flood Aid: Commissioner's Miscalculation - Niger State Government Amends Figure of Rice Aid from 6,000 Trailers to 6,000 Bags

The Niger State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has set the record straight about the amount of rice allocated for victims of the Mokwa flood. Contrary to Commissioner Ahmed Yumu's statement, it wasn't 6,000 trailers of rice, but rather a more manageable 6,000 bags.

The mix-up happened when Yumu spoke under duress, understandably shaken by the loss of lives and properties in the disaster. His statement was a slip of the tongue, as he meant to say bags, not trailers.

The Commissioner's error was apologized for in a statement by the Ministry's Director of Media and Strategy, Habibu Wushishi. Channel television had initially reported the Commissioner's statements, which led to the ensuing clarification.

The relief materials are set to be distributed fairly to ensure every victim receives their due. The Ministry expressed its full responsibility for the error and offered its sincerest apologies.

On a related note, President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of 20 trucks of rice for the Mokwa flood victims as part of his relief efforts. This arrangement is separate from the state's relief efforts, but they both aim to help the affected communities recover from the disaster.

As the relief efforts continue, there's also concern about potential fuel scarcity in Abuja and Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2025 Eid Al-Adha. Market traders are seeking alternatives due to the Mokwa flood's impact on local transport routes.
