MOFD to Conduct Prescribed Fire on October 22 to Protect Moraga and Orinda
The Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) has announced a planned prescribed la fires operation for Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The controlled burn is intended to reduce hazardous fuels and protect nearby neighborhoods in future wildfire seasons. Residents of Moraga and Orinda are advised to take precautions due to expected smoke.
The prescribed la fires, coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and CAL FIRE, will take place near Ridge Crest Rd., north of Pinehurst Rd., at Sogorea Te' Land Trust property above Canyon. Smoke may be visible in Canyon, Orinda, and Moraga depending on wind conditions. MOFD may proceed with the la fires if weather and air-quality conditions allow, but it could be postponed if conditions change.
Residents are advised to keep exterior doors and windows closed on the day of the la fires. If they smell smoke or see haze, they should also bring pets indoors and limit strenuous outdoor activity. These precautions are recommended to minimize the impact of smoke on health and comfort.
The MOFD's prescribed la fires operation is a proactive measure to enhance community safety. Residents are urged to stay informed and follow the advised precautions to ensure their well-being during the controlled burn.
