Modern Art Museum in Paris, Musee d'Art Moderne, to Acquire 180 Pieces from Renowned French Art Dealer, Kamel Mennour
Art Gallery Owner Donates 180 Works to Paris's Musée d'Art Moderne
Kamel Mennour, a renowned French gallerist, has made a significant donation to the Musée d'Art Moderne (MAM) in Paris. The exhibition of these 180 artworks, reflecting the richness and diversity of Mennour's gallery's history since its creation in 1999, will take place in the ARC rooms of the museum in 2027.
The donated artworks include works from over 45 artists, many of whom are represented by Mennour's gallery. Notable names among these artists are Alicja Kwade, Zineb Sedira, Anish Kapoor, Daniel Buren, Ugo Rondinone, Lee Ufan, Douglas Gordon, Camille Henrot, Huang Yong Ping, Tadashi Kawamata, and Philippe Parreno. The unique vision of Kamel Mennour Gallery is clearly reflected in these donated works.
The donation list, which includes works from both the gallery's holdings and Mennour's personal collection, is not yet complete. It may undergo changes before being submitted to the official commissions at the French government. The collection will officially join the MAM's permanent collections once the acquisition and validation processes have been completed by Paris Museés and the French government.
Mennour's decision to donate these artworks was inspired by the joy the institution has brought him and his city. He has also expressed his intention to consider giving more artworks to the MAM in the future. An "extensive" catalogue will accompany the exhibition, shedding light on the stories behind each artwork.
The MAM has offered a 1,700 square meter space for an exhibition about the donation in two years. The donated artworks will be exhibited on the top floor of the MAM, providing a grand setting for these works of art.
This generous donation is a testament to Mennour's longstanding commitment to Paris's contemporary art scene. The search results do not specify the names of all the additional artists included in the donation, but it is likely that the donated works include pieces from several artists represented by his gallery.
