R.I.P Carlo von Tiedemann (1943-2025). We bid an emotional adieu to the charismatic host who passed away today, June 8, at the age of 81 in Hamburg. The NDR announced this, a broadcasting institution where Carlo held court for over five decades.

"He breathed his last at 2:30 PM," his wife Julia confirmed to the "Bild" newspaper. It was a "great relief" for the beloved host, with his children and wife by his side till the end.

"If anyone can be likened to an 'NDR veteran,' it's Carlo von Tiedemann," says Joachim Knuth (66), director of the institution, in a statement. "He captivated several generations with his laid-back, improvisational, and endearing demeanor, remaining a favorite among our audience until his final days," it continues. The departed leaves behind a significant void.

Carlo began his NDR journey in 1971 as a radio reporter, moving on to host "Die aktuelle Schaubude" from 1976 and again from 1997. Other popular NDR shows he served as host include the "NDR Quizshow" and programs like "Carlos Koch-Chaos" and "Carlo and Wigald on Tour" for several years. His on-air charm extended to radio as well, appearing in front of the camera for select films and series.[3]

Carlo's illustrious career encompassed various radio and television shows. Here are some of his notable achievements:

Over the years, he also took on roles as a stadium announcer for the Hamburg football club HSV from 1991 to 1998.[3] He shared his talent for acting in TV series like "Großstadtrevier," appeared in "Stubbe – Von Fall zu Fall," and starred in the "Tatort."[3] Moreover, he was actively engaged with the Hamburger Stiftung Kinder-Hospiz "Sternenbrücke," a testament to his dedication to social causes.[3]
