Moderator Julia Ruhs expelled by NDR; CDU demands repercussions
In a recent statement, CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann has expressed concern and disapproval over the dismissal of Julia Ruhs as the moderator of 'Klar' by NDR. Linnemann described the decision as a new low point in the culture of debate in Germany, and a problematic signal that could marginalise certain viewpoints in public broadcasting.
According to reports, Ruhs will no longer host 'Klar' for NDR, and in the future, she will appear only in episodes produced by BR. Previously, there had been media reports of a 'harassment campaign' against Ruhs.
Linnemann praised Daniel Günther for intervening in the debate and emphasised the importance of different opinions and viewpoints in public broadcasting, which has a mandate in terms of culture, education, and information. He also believed that public broadcasting needs to focus on reforming its structures.
Linnemann expressed his appreciation for Günther's character and his stance against the situation, and demanded financial cuts for public broadcasting in Germany as a means to pressure for reforms. He also believed that Ruhs' effective suspension was bitter and expressed concern that employees are being excluded from public broadcasting for being perceived as conservative.
The leadership of the CDU has criticised the NDR decision to no longer employ Ruhs as the moderator of 'Klar' as very problematic and a bad signal. They have demanded consequences such as freezing the broadcasting fees to pressure for reforms.
The dismissal of Ruhs is becoming a political issue, and Linnemann's statements are part of the ongoing political discussion about the controversy surrounding Ruhs and her dismissal from NDR. Many citizens feel they can't express certain views without being marginalised.
Linnemann emphasised that public broadcasting needs to maintain a balance of opinions and viewpoints to serve the public interest effectively. He believes that the dismissal of Ruhs could set a dangerous precedent for the future of public broadcasting in Germany.
