A tremendous sense of loss prevails as we bid farewell to the renowned figure Carlo von Tiedemann (1943-2025). This distinguished host took his final breath on June 8th in Hamburg. The NDR, where he's graced our airwaves for over five decades, made the heartbreaking announcement.
Considering the momentous occasion, his beloved spouse Julia also confirmed the news to the "Bild" newspaper. In the end, it was "a sweet release" for von Tiedemann, she said, with his children and wife keeping a constant vigil by his side during his final days.
The Cherished Face of NDR for Generations
"If there was ever an 'NDR veteran,' it was Carlo von Tiedemann," reflects Joachim Knuth, NDR director, in a statement. "With his easy-going, impromptu, and warm-hearted demeanor, he captivated numerous generations and remained our absolute viewer darling until his last day." The impact von Tiedemann made, and the emptiness left by his departure, Knuth sums up as "a significant loss."
The late Carlo von Tiedemann embarked on his NDR journey in 1971 as a radio reporter. He assumed the reins of "Die aktuelle Schaubude" in 1976 and again in 1997. Among his other distinguished television programs were "NDR Quizshow," "NDR Talk Show," and "Carlos Koch-Chaos." For years, he also co-hosted "Carlo and Wigald on Tour."
Even in the realm of film and series, von Tiedemann's presence was felt, featuring as a guest on "Großstadtrevier," appearing in "Stubbe - Von Fall zu Fall," and even playing a role in the "Tatort."
