Model's Relationship with Victoria's Secret Sours After Termination of Free Perks, Allegedly Resulting in an Embarrassing Situation
Tyra Banks, the renowned model and television personality, has shared an unexpected story about her time as a Victoria's Secret Angel. In an appearance on "Today with Jenna & Friends", Banks spoke about an incident where her Angel Card, a special card that granted her free purchases as a former Angel, was declined at a Victoria's Secret store.
Banks, who was a Victoria's Secret Angel from 1997 to 2005, was initially gifted the Angel Card by the head of Victoria's Secret as a gesture of goodwill. The card allowed her to shop from every collection that came out, with no cap on her purchases. However, after she declined to renew her modeling contract with Victoria's Secret, the company retaliated by deactivating her Angel Card.
Despite being allowed to keep the Angel Card for about a year after leaving, Banks recounted that when she attempted to use it at a Victoria's Secret store later, the card was declined. This served as a clear message from Victoria’s Secret to cut ties after contract non-renewal.
The incident occurred in a Victoria's Secret store in Los Angeles, where Banks had a large number of items with her at the time of the incident. She was visibly embarrassed when asked if Victoria's Secret rejected her Angel Card in-store.
Banks has since asked viewers to share their thoughts on this matter in the comments, and the full clip of her discussing the debacle can be found online. The model, who returned to the Victoria's Secret runway last October, has expressed a desire to represent the brand again, but only under the condition that her Angel Card is returned to her.
Interestingly, Banks' lingerie collection, which she amassed during her time with the Angel Card, no longer matches due to her previous purchases. This anecdote highlights a sour aftermath between Banks and the brand despite her previous status as a prominent Angel.
