MMA Competition in Sweden Highlights Trump Administration's Approach Towards Extremist Terrorism by Far-Right Groups
U.S. Active Club Member Allegedly Connects with Scandinavian Terrorist Group During Sweden Trip
The Trump administration's crackdown on undocumented immigrants and foreign students, as well as its controversial practice of granular social media surveillance, has come under scrutiny. Meanwhile, an American member of a transnational far-right fight club, known as the Active Club, appears to have linked up with a group linked to the Nordic Resistance Movement (NRM), a Scandinavian organization the U.S. Treasury Department has designated as a terrorist group.
In September 2024, an unidentified American affiliated with the Active Club reportedly attended a mixed-martial-arts tournament in Borås, Sweden, hosted by skinhead organizations Tvåsaxe and GYM XIV. Photographs from the event were published online by Media 2 Rise, the American ACs' media wing, and social media posts from the Swedish hosts claimed that at least one member from the Southern California Active Club was present.
Media 2 Rise, founded by Active Club founder Robert Rundo, specializes in high-energy, propagandistic video edits of far-right combat sport tournaments. While neither the organization nor its creator, Allen Michael Goff (who goes by the pseudonym "Lucca Corgiat" in collaboration with Rundo), responded to our requests for comment, the Swedish event was seemingly endorsed by Media 2 Rise with the posting of eight watermarked photographs from the tournament.
Tvåsaxe is allegedly linked to the NRM, a pan-Scandinavian neo-Nazi organization designated as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist Group" by the U.S. State Department in 2024. International coordination with such listed groups is barred by counterterrorism sanctions, which prohibit associating, providing support, banking, owning property, or conducting business with American financial institutions.
The Active Club network, with roots in local recruiting and activism, has often been associated with extremist views. However, clear connections between the American ACs and international groups like the NRM remain ambiguous. The NRM's activities in the U.S. have been significantly restricted since the designation, making international collaboration more difficult.
In light of these developments, ongoing monitoring of such networks will continue due to their shared extremist ideologies and the potential for collaboration or cross-pollination in propaganda and activism.
- The U.S. government's policy-and-legislation on counterterrorism sanctions prohibits any association, support, banking, property ownership, or conducting business with American financial institutions for designated terrorist groups, like the Nordic Resistance Movement (NRM).
- The Active Club network, with its roots in local activism and extremist views, has seen ambiguous connections with international groups such as the NRM, despite the NRM's activities in the U.S. being significantly restricted since its designation as a terrorist group.
