MLB trade talks are hotting up with the Houston Astros reportedly eyeing a move for former star Carlos Correa.

The Houston Astros are contemplating a reunion with former star player Carlos Correa, who currently dons the Minnesota Twins jersey. With Correa's contract including team options, the Astros stand a chance to bring him back, albeit under certain conditions such as plate appearances, top-five MVP finishes, Silver Slugger honours, and World Series or ALCS MVP awards [1].

Correa's performance this season has been a mixed bag. In 93 games with the Twins, he managed a batting average of .267, on-base percentage of .319, and slugging percentage of .386, with 7 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 40 runs scored [2]. However, since being traded back to the Astros on July 31, 2025, Correa has shown a significant improvement, with a batting average of around .338 and multiple extra-base hits [3].

The prospect of a reunion, however, is not without challenges. Correa's remaining contract, which amounts to approximately $92 million from 2026-28, with $11.6 million still due this year, presents a significant financial burden [1]. Additionally, the Astros are close to the luxury tax threshold, with only about $4.5 million of payroll room left [2]. Owner Jim Crane, historically reluctant to exceed this threshold, may be swayed by the Astros' injury issues and desire for a former star [2].

The Astros, who boast a championship pedigree, are in search of a bat to strengthen their team, particularly due to several injuries [4]. With key players like Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Isaac Paredes, Brendan Rodgers, and Jake Myers out, the team is looking to bolster their lineup [4].

Correa's contract includes team options for $25 million, $20 million, $15 million, and $10 million in the following four years, respectively [1]. Despite the financial hurdles, the Astros' pursuit of Correa underscores their determination to regain their offensive prowess.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Twins could potentially be active at the trade deadline, with players like Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, Harrison Bader, and Willi Castro as possible trade options [5]. Correa, who reportedly "loves" being in Minnesota [6], may choose to stay with the Twins if a trade does not materialise.

As the season progresses, the Astros lead the AL West by four games entering Wednesday [7]. Regardless of where Correa ends up, the race for the division title promises to be an exciting one.
