MLB trade deadline shattered by Padres; Terry McLaurin seeks trade; potential interest for Kuminga in Sacramento?

The MLB trade deadline has come and gone, and several teams have emerged as winners and losers.

The New York Yankees are among the winners, shoring up their bullpen with the late acquisitions of David Bednar, Jake Bird, and Camilo Doval. These moves address a critical need for the stretch run, despite not adding starting pitching. On the other hand, the Miami Marlins decided against trading key starters like Sandy Alcantara, a move viewed positively given the lack of strong offers. They made smaller trades like sending Jesús Sánchez for prospects.

The New York Mets also made significant strides, improving their offensive and defensive metrics by acquiring Cedric Mullins. Statistically, Mullins outperformed the player he replaced, Tyrone Taylor.

Among the losers, the San Francisco Giants moved key relievers and outfielders while struggling towards a .500 record, indicating a step back rather than strengthening their roster for a playoff push. The Milwaukee Brewers, despite leading the league, made few impactful moves, adding players like Danny Jansen and Shelby Miller but losing noteworthy talent in the process. The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Blake Snell but did not receive equivalent value, a move viewed as a loss for their competitiveness.

In other news, the San Diego Padres' General Manager, A.J. Preller, is a winner in the MLB's biggest deadline deals, improving their team's situation behind the plate with the acquisition of Freddy Fermin.

In the NFL, Washington's No. 1 wideout, Terry McLaurin, has reportedly requested a trade. If he is indeed moved, there would be plenty of teams interested in his services. McLaurin has topped 1,000 yards in each of the last five years.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are one of six NBA teams that still have a lot of work left to do this offseason.

Looking ahead, this weekend's sports schedule is packed. Highlights include the Wyndham Championship Round 2, Astros at Red Sox, Mercury at Dream, Dodgers at Rays, Angel City FC at Seattle Reign FC, BIG3 -- Week 8, Orioles at Cubs, Lynx at Aces, WWE SummerSlam, Leagues Cup: Necaxa at Inter Miami, Braves vs. Reds at Bristol Motor Speedway, Fever at Storm, Mercury at Sky, Valkyries at Aces, Tigers at Phillies, and WWE SummerSlam.
