MLB All-Star Game to be Held at Wrigley Field in 2027: First Time in 37 Years for Chicago Cubs' Stadium
Chicago's iconic Wrigley Field is set to host the Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game for the fourth time in its history. The Midsummer Classic will take place on Tuesday, July 13, 2027, making it one of only three ballparks to have hosted four All-Star Games.
Wrigley Field, opened in 1914, is baseball's second oldest ballpark, just behind Fenway Park in Boston. It has previously hosted the All-Star Game in 1947, 1962, and 1990. The American League won all three games held there, with the most recent being a 2-0 shutout in 1990. The 1990 game was notable for its low offensive output, with the National League managing just two hits, the fewest ever for an All-Star team. Ryne Sandberg, a hometown Cubs player, won the Home Run Derby that year with three homers.
The upcoming 2027 MLB All-Star Game will continue Chicago’s strong tradition, as it will be the eighth All-Star Game hosted in the city, second only to New York’s nine. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred applauded the Ricketts family, the Cubs organization, the city of Chicago, and the Chicago Sports Commission for their vision for the 2027 All-Star Week.
Wrigley Field has undergone numerous renovations over the years, including upgrades to the player facilities and scoreboards in the mid-2010s. The area surrounding the stadium, known as Wrigleyville, has also been transformed, making it an outstanding destination for baseball fans.
While Wrigley Field is set to host the 2027 All-Star Game, other cities are also eager to welcome the event. The Athletics, who have not hosted an All-Star Game since 1987, are hoping to bring the game to their new ballpark in Las Vegas once it is ready. The Blue Jays, who last hosted the All-Star Game in 1991, are likely to host an All-Star Game in the late 2020s or early 2030s. The 2026 All-Star Game will be played at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, tied to the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Major League Baseball and its partners will leave a lasting impact on the communities across Chicago through the All-Star Legacy program. The signing of the Declaration of Independence will be celebrated in 2026, coinciding with the All-Star Game. This promises to be an exciting time for baseball fans and history enthusiasts alike.
