Mitsubishi Fuso expands with a new tech centre in India and zero-emission bus plans
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus (MFTBC) has opened a new technical centre in India to boost its engineering capabilities. The Fuso Tech Centre India (FTCI) will handle product development, digital solutions, and procurement for global markets. Meanwhile, the company is also teaming up with Foxconn to build a zero-emission bus factory in Japan.
The FTCI facility sits near Daimler India Commercial Vehicles' Oragadam plant in Chennai. This plant has been exporting trucks since 2013. The new 2,847-square-metre centre includes collaborative workspaces, a design studio, and advanced testing labs.
Hardware-in-the-loop testing at FTCI allows engineers to test vehicle controls without physical prototypes. This speeds up development and improves accuracy. The centre will also focus on diagnostics, validation, and cost engineering to shorten timelines and raise product quality.
Earlier this year, MFTBC and Foxconn announced plans for a new bus manufacturer in Japan. The facility will produce zero-emission models, supporting Daimler Truck's push into electric and autonomous vehicles in Asia. Together, these moves aim to make MFTBC more agile in responding to market changes and technological shifts.
The FTCI will serve as a global hub for engineering, IT, and customer service. Its advanced testing and design tools are set to accelerate development cycles. At the same time, the Japan-based bus plant will expand MFTBC's zero-emission vehicle production.
