Missing cruise ship passenger's documentary overlooks significant aspect noticed by Netflix viewers
In the gripping true crime film or series streaming now on Netflix, the case of Amy Bradley, a young girl who vanished without a trace, takes centre stage. However, a significant detail about the con artist at the heart of the investigation, Frank Jones, has been left out or underemphasized in the Netflix series, according to viewers and Amy's own family.
Frank Jones, who posed as a former U.S. Army Green Beret, approached the Bradley family in 2002, claiming he had located Amy in Curaçao. He offered to organise a rescue team of ex-Army Rangers and Navy SEALs, for which the Bradleys paid him over $210,000, mostly raised by a missing children’s organization.
However, Jones had no actual Special Forces background. He staged fake photos and never had any information about Amy’s whereabouts. In 2002, he pleaded guilty to mail fraud, was sentenced to five years in prison, and was ordered to repay the $210,000 he had taken.
The Bradley family's heartbreak did not deter them from pursuing any seemingly credible lead in the search for Amy. Frank even went as far as sending two men to Curacao to investigate Margaritha's claims about Amy's captivity.
One of Frank's operatives, however, suspected foul play and exposed Jones as a fraud. Sadly, Margaritha's son discredited her story, claiming she fabricated sightings to exploit the family.
Despite these revelations, the Netflix series does not provide a complete account of the case. The financial loss the Bradley family suffered as a result of this significant con remains a notable omission in the series, a point highlighted by viewers and Amy’s own family.
