Missing Catamarans Carrying Aid to Cuba Found Near Havana
Two missing catamaran-style vessels have been found in the Caribbean after setting off from Mexico with humanitarian aid for Cuba. The Mexican Navy located the boats 80 nautical miles northwest of Havana, carrying nine crew members of different nationalities. The vessels departed from Isla Mujeres in Quintana Roo, Mexico, loaded with supplies for crisis-stricken Cuba. The country has faced severe shortages of electricity and fuel in recent months.
A Mexican Navy ship was dispatched to assist the crew after they went missing. The United States later confirmed the safe arrival of both vessels in Cuba.
No international or regional organisations have supported similar aid missions from Mexico to Cuba in the past year. The crew's journey highlights ongoing efforts to deliver aid to Cuba amid its deepening shortages. The successful arrival of the vessels brings much-needed supplies to the island, though no wider humanitarian initiatives have backed such missions recently.
